Parent Infant Community

No Session Scheduled at this time.

MSWP’s first-ever Parent Infant class was a great success!  This program is sure to grow into a wonderful aspect of our school.  Parents attend with their babies, share experiences, observe and delve into fascinating parenting topics as a group.

We will be staring our second Parent-Infant Series in September, 2015. Expecting parents and those with children ages 0-18 months are welcome.   Learning about Montessori Philosophy during infancy is a gift.   Please contact if you are interested, or know someone who might be.

Purpose

This program is designed to build awareness of the Montessori philosophy for the child and parent. You will have the rare opportunity to observe and interact with your child in a Montessori classroom prepared just for young children.  You will also be able to connect with other parents of infants.  Think of it as a “Mommy and Me” play date with developmental and parenting education thrown in!  You will be given an observation journal with instructions on how to observe your child daily and then you will have the opportunity to discuss your observations and any questions that come up, with the group and the Montessori Guide.  This journal will turn in to a wonderful “memory keeper” of your child’s infancy.

The goal is to educate parents while their children are still young and to give parents an opportunity to meet other parents of infants in a social, learning environment.  Parents will learn to be observant, and gain understanding of their child, while the Montessori Guide/teacher introduces activities to the children.  There will also be an opportunity for you to observe in our Toddler Community at MSWP where we serve children walking well to three years of age.  This is a wonderful chance to look into your future and see the amazing capabilities of the toddler aged child.

During the weekly class, the guide/ teacher introduces activities to children and to the parent.  These lessons help the child to develop social skills, concentration, communication and a sense of belonging to a group, while modeling for the parent how to duplicate these skills in the home environment.

These are some of the topics covered during the classes

  • Preparing the Home Environment
  • Development of Language
  • Development of Movement
  • Development of Independence
  • Weaning/Eating
  • Toileting
  • Positive Guidance
  • Montessori Theories

To facilitate discussion, Understanding the Human Being by Dr. Silvana Montanaro is recommended reading.  THE JOYFUL CHILD: Montessori, Global Wisdom for Birth to Three by Susan Stephenson and an observation journal will be included for each registered family.
