Our goal is education of the whole child

At the Montessori School of Washington Park, the child is the center of the classroom experience. As mentors, guides, and teachers, we seek to provide opportunities to nurture confidence and competence, to foster the child's love of learning and assist in development of a positive self image. We offer a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment in which children may grow and develop into responsible, contributing citizens of the world.

NEWS:

Denver Preschool Program

A few of you may be thinking, “What is the DPP”? or “How and who can apply”? Please take a few minutes to read over this valuable information.

The Denver Preschool Program is the result of an initiative voted on by the Denver residents in November of 2006. The initiative recognizes the importance of quality early educational opportunities for young children by setting aside one twelfth of one percent of sales tax revenues to increase access of a quality preschool experience for those children prior to kindergarten.

The Preschool Program is an independent tax-exempt organization, who’s Board and Advisors are appointed by Denver’s Mayor and approved by the Denver City Council to oversee the Program and expenditures. No more than 5% of the tax revenues can be spent on administrative expenses with the other 95% to be used for tuition credits on behalf of the children in the program, outreach to parents and assistance with preschool enrollment, technical assistance and grants to preschool providers to help them improve the quality of their program, and evaluation of the Denver Preschool Program. DPP participants receive tuition credits on a sliding scale.

DPP wants to ensure that every Denver child in the year prior to Kindergarten has a good start in school. The Program provides preschool tuition credits for children’s preschool education based on the family’s income, the preschool you select, and the quality rating of that preschool. Half-day or full day programs are eligible. You may select preschools outside the City and County of Denver as long as the preschool participates in the Denver Preschool Program.

To qualify, the child and the family must reside within the City and County of Denver. The child must be in the year prior to the year in which the child will be eligible for Kindergarten in accordance with state law. All income levels are eligible for preschool tuition credits.

To apply, the parent or guardian completes the application, signs and dates it, and provides the required child identification, proof of residency, and most current 3 months of income verification. After the application is processed, DPP sends you an approval letter authorizing any tuition credits on behalf of your child. Personal financial information will be confidential and will be shared only in accordance with the Denver Preschool Program requirements for reporting, auditing, and evaluation. If your child is in or qualifies for programs such as Head Start, Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP), and Colorado Pre-Kindergarten Program (CPKP), the Denver Preschool Program will coordinate with these programs to determine the relationship of the program funding in which you qualify with DPP funding.

The DPP does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age (except as to the age of the children qualifying for tuition credits), military status, sexual orientation, gender variance, marital status, or mental disability.
